T4D 23 - Brymen TBM251
« on: September 18, 2012, 01:32:21 AM »
For those interested, I sent Martin information on a possible Brymen TBM251 OEM which is sold under a different name for those in North America.  Once he investigates and gets everything setup, I'm sure he will disclose the info ASAP.

Yes, thanks retiredcaps for your sharp eye...

Some of the Greenlee meters appear to be re-branded Brymen meters.

The two models most similar to the Brymen TBM251 -> Greenlee DM-200A and DM-210A:

Greenlee DM-200A: http://astore.amazon.com/m0711-20/detail/B003JZB4EE
Greenlee DM-210A: http://astore.amazon.com/m0711-20/detail/B003TO5YTQ

Please note...although these have the capability of data logging to a PC....the software and cable are optional...not included.

I hope to post a review soon.

Cheers,
Martin.

The difference between the DM200-A and DM-210A is that the latter adds capacitance and temperature capabilities according to page 357 of the catalog at

http://greenlee-media.precis5.com/f5f3b8d720f34ebebceb7765e447268b

The DM-510A adds true RMS for those that need it.

The interface software and cables for data logging...not cheap...: http://astore.amazon.com/m0711-20/detail/B004477BJ8

Your DB is around 40 years old, and should be updated. Best is to buy yourself an insulation tester from Major Tech ( at least they are local and easy to get, and will be useful for helping test solar installs) to test the wiring you have.

If you become an eBay reseller i will be interested, how do you want payment, and the nice thing is the Berco R99 pack, as a 2 day delivery method in SA ( Note I use Berco at work, just FYI, generally a good service from them) from anywhere to anywhere in major centres for small parcels.

Hi Sean, I've updated almost all of the breakers now and the earth leakage and since then we've had no problems. One of the electricians that was here did do an insulation test at 500 v and everything passed ok at the time he did it. I have a suspicion that my old earth leakage was too sensitive. I also suspect that the pool circuit might be causing issues during wet weather which is why I have it through its own earth leakage now to see if that is the case.

I will still consider your other suggestion of extending the wires and setting up a new DB over the old one or on the side of the cupboard....a future project.

I do agree...an insulation tester would be a handy piece of kit to own...on my list now.

Thanks for the info on Berco. Once I get the eBay affiliation sorted I will probably use paypal.....but not sure what's involved yet.

Cheers.

At least for me I can do direct deposits into your account, i do not do Paypal.

Insulation tester is good to check mains rated capacitors like in a fan. Also good for other uses....... Can be shockingly good at that as well.
