Franky will post details here on how you can get a discount on the UT61E.
Cheers,
Martin.
-
Hi Martin and everyone,
I can offer forum members a discount on the UT61E and other items in my eBay store, if we deal directly here, as I can save myself some eBay fees this way. For the UT61E I can offer a member price of $55$51 (US customers) / $57 $53 (non-US customers), that's including worldwide Registered Air Mail shipping, which comes with a tracking number. Price for US customers is slightly lower because Hong Kong Post and USPS has a joint service called eExpress (which is just another fancy name for Registered Air Mail), which makes sending heavier packages the US more economical.
For other items in my store, I can offer 5-7% discount, please inquire.
Even though my eBay account is almost 13 years old, my seller's store is still relatively new. As such, eBay imposes a lot of limitations to how many I can list and sell every month. There are items I haven't listed there yet and I usually have more quantity of the items than I am listing there, so again, if anyone is interested in anything there, please inquire. Thanks!
Cheers,
Franky (franky @ 99centhobbies . com)
P.S. To get this discount please contact me by either posting in this thread or sending me a private message. Thanks!
EDIT: Pricing and shipping info updated on 5 Feb 2013.
EDIT: Early summer sale 2014. Prices reduced.

Just a quick update on the UT61E at my eBay store, I have temporarily run out of stock! I will re-stock as soon as possible, it shouldn't take more than 3-4 days or so. Thanks a lot folks for the purchases! It will be a busy Monday for me at the post office!!
If you want one at the forum special price of $55, please leave me a private message and I'll send one out to you as soon as my new stock comes in. Thanks!
EDIT: The UT61E's are back in stock!

I won't stock big items like this but if you're interested I can try to source it for you. At what price point would you be interested in having one?

Hi Frankie,
Do you have any plans to sell silicone multimeter test leads in your store? Something equivalent to the Fluke TL71? They don't have to be Fluke branded, just silicone leads with shrouded 20mm insertion plugs. It would be a bonus if I didn't have to grind them down or clean them with IPA either! ;)
-
plus 38 shipping
I think the best that I can do is possibly to match that total price+shipping, with the 3-5 day Speedpost service (trackable). I wouldn't use ordinary Air Mail (non-trackable) for a more expensive item like this. If you are interested I'll see what I can do.

Silicone leads have actually been always high on my list of things to find :) I actually do have a set that I'm testing/using myself, but it's a modular system, i.e. the leads have standard shrouded plugs on both ends, with detachable probes, and other different accessories you can attach to the end, like croc clips, banana plug style probe tips, and other kinds of clips. I can post some pics if you're interested.

Yes, please post pics. Modular or monolithic is fine either way.

OK, took me a while to take these pictures...but here they are.
One note about the probe tips: except for the banana plug style tips, which has a nickel coating, the other 2 pairs of probe tips are actually bare stainless steel, no coating. They don't look as shiny as normal probe tips but they are very smooth and there's absolutely minimal scratchiness (if any) when doing continuity tests with them.

Quick update: The Uni-T UT61E is back in stock! Contact me here for the forum member discount of $55 per unit. Thanks for looking!

Thank you

Just being curious - how much for this test lead kit shipped to NY, US?
Thank you
I haven't priced them yet as I want to see if there's any interest at all before I stock them. The entire kit you see here would probably cost somewhere in the neighbourhood of $55-60 dollar shipped worldwide. Shipping rates from Hong Kong Post is really simple, pretty much everywhere costs the same, except Asia which costs slightly less. The basic leads + probes as seen in the first couple of pictures may cost about $13-15 (shipped). Some of these parts cost more than the others, such as the bigger spring loaded test clips/hooks in the last 2 pictures.
These prices are only rough estimates. If any forum members would like to order I can potentially offer larger discounts just to get the words out.

Thanks for the interest! I have actually stocked some already will should have them listed in my eBay store very soon. Members here will definitely get a discount if they are will to deal directly outside of eBay. I will keep you posted.

The added charges of Paypal over transactions which are made out of eBay are capable to tear down any discount.
One good incuiry about those charges is always needed, especialy for low value transactions.
The banking system now days easily swalow 18$ American, even for transactions between international bank accounts (as minimum fee ) .

More on PayPal charges... You are correct about low value transactions. They charge $0.3 for every cross border transactions, which is pretty much every single transaction I have, on top of the 3.9% charge on the transaction value. But the ultimate killer for us non-US users/merchants is their currency exchange rate when you want to withdraw your PayPal balance into your bank account. Their rate is about 10% worse than any bank's rate. Fortunately for myself I have ways to spend all my PayPal balance on my other unrelated businesses, so I can avoid that horrendous currency exchange. That's a crucial factor to make this eBay/forum selling thing work for me.
-
Also their exchange rate kind of sucks when you buy something. I get to pay 5% more than normal exchange rates when ordering from eBay or anyplace else. But I guess they have to get payed from somewhere.
-
Just wanted to add that dealing with Franky (iloveelectronics) was a pleasure, I have bought a few things from his ebay store and shipping was fast and he was very responsive. I will definately order from again soon!
The quality of the 4mm banana to minigrabbers was much better than I expected, especially for the price.

Thanks! Was a pleasure dealing with you too! The eBay quota system for sellers really sucks though. For some unknown reason they have lowered my selling limit a few days ago and now I had to cut down on the quantity available on a lot of my items and even remove some items so I can make room for my best seller the UT61E. I will have to wait till the new year to start listing more stuff again...
It's the 25th here already so Merry Christmas everyone!

Hi Billy, please check your PM.
And just for everyone's information - the price of the UT61E for forum members has always stayed the same at $55 [EDIT Feb 5, 2013: It has now been changed to $57 for non-US buyers, but tracking will be included].
-
If your offer is still going I would love to buy a UNI-T UT61E from you!
Cheers,

Hi Joker94,
The offer is still good but I need to check if I still have any in stock (I'm ordering another batch from my supplier but shipment has been delayed). I will get back to you in a PM. Thanks!

I have updated the pricing and shipping info in the opening post of this thread. I have now made Registered Air Mail the default shipping method for this multimeter, because long delays and missing packages in some countries have caused some problems for me :(

hello i'm a potencial byuer of the ut61e from greece and i want to ask mr Franky couple questions:
1. rough estimation of delivery time
2. do you know anything about custom charges?
3. Is it possible to send it marked as gift, to avoid custom charges?
-
1. rough estimation of delivery time
It seems to usually take between 2-3 weeks from HK to Greece.
2. do you know anything about custom charges?
Unfortunately I have no idea. I can ask some of my previous Greek customers to find out if you like.
3. Is it possible to send it marked as gift, to avoid custom charges?
Yes, if that's what you prefer.
-
Well if you could ask them that would be great.
from a little research i did, it seems that if you use a courier service it will definately go through customs, but if you use national post office there are good chances you will avoid charges.

One of my Greek customers responded and told me he had no problem with customs at all. He didn't have to pay anything, but he said it might have to do with the declared value of the package. I can do the same for your package and hopefully it will arrive the same way.
-
Received my UT61E today, thanks Franky for the efficient and friendly service. Delivery to Ireland took about 3 weeks.
Good little meter, has one of the fastest updating displays I've seen, especially the bar graph. Such a pity it doesn't have auto power off (possibly the only meter made in the last 25 years not to have it!), but will be useful as a data logging meter.
Billy.

The bar graph's not shabby, but if you've never seen a 2Hz display before..
Such a pity it doesn't have auto power off
Easily modified to include it. See here: http://www.designelectronics.com.au/DesignElectronics_UT61E-APO.htm

Lol true, you don't get away with saying much around here, yes 2Hz is standard enough but it does feel very responsive at autoranging.

Yes, saw that mod alright. But absolutely no excuse for not including that out of the factory. Well unless maybe the designer was drunk, or the head of the company had just invested his pension fund in Duracell or Ever Ready.

The autoranging is indeed quite fast, but you have to discard the first reading as it doesn't alter the decimal place properly.

So, is it actually sure that I'll get a meter in the original box, not like Martin's Uni-t?

Yes. I sent all meters in its original box, as can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlWeE2rLtak
-
Excellent, I'll order one probably on friday :)
-
It is possible for you to write a lower value for the package and to include no invoices inside?
Do you offer refund/resend if it is lost?
Thanks.
-

Not a problem.
Do you offer refund/resend if it is lost?
Thanks.
I wouldn't say a definite yes because there might be dishonest people out there who see this and take advantage of me. But because I now always send this multimeter through registered air mail which has a tracking number, there should be some traceability which allows us to make formal inquiry to the post offices to track it down. In the worst case of long period of waiting (2 months+) and fruitless pursue through the post offices I will try to reach an agreeable solution with the buyer, which includes the possibility of a resend/refund. Sorry to be a bit diplomatic in answering this but the profit margin of this meter is so low I really can't afford losing them in the mail much anymore :(
-
Just some comments for everyone to consider.
When you are a new poster with no "history" here, sellers should be suspicious when a post comes along asking for low value declaration and refund if lost in shipping. I would even suggest sellers add an extra charge for signature/id verification. Or use ebay (instead of private transaction) so the seller can see the buyer's feedback to see if there is a history of lost items.
I had a bad experience with one ebay seller in Israel. The ebay auction claimed the multimeter was 100% working and when I received it, not even the simplest functions worked. What I should have done was open an ebay resolution case right away (to get back my $25 shipping costs for obvious misrepresentation), but I was being a nice guy and tried to work something out with the seller.
The seller asked me to send back the multimeter and I agreed. I went to Canada Post and filled out a customs form and declared truthfully what I paid on ebay. Luckily I did because my package never made it back to Israel (so the seller claims). I had to open a case with Canada Post and provide formal proof and documentation/forms. I sent in the customs form and my paypal invoice and was refunded.
So for sellers who declare low value items (say $10) as a "favour" be aware that if an item is lost, you will be likely refunded for the low value ($10) by the post office.
PS. Customs people/workers are not stupid. In many of Martin's videos he has said that anything low value is automatically suspected by customs and subject to inspection.
PPS. For the record, I have never asked sellers to declare anything but the actual ebay winning auction price. I had a $120 multimeter sent to me from USA and Canada customs did not levy any extra charges on me.
-
After further research it seems that an invoice or goods value inside the package is mandatory and
its value and also the declared package value has to be lower than 12$ in order for me to pay no VAT(24%).Also package has to be send non commercial.
So if real value is written on the invoice and package i will pay another 14$ for the meter :-[.
I will contact Franky with my ebay account for validation. :)
-
Please put your country on your profile as well, it helps a lot.
-
he declared package value has to be lower than 12$ in order for me to pay no VAT(24%).
As I mentioned before, customs people are not stupid. They have access to the Internet just you like and I. They can easily look up the value of a UT61E on ebay or equivalent and see it sells for much more than $12.
-
Just thought I mention that my UT61E came promptly to Alberta, Canada.
Very impressed with the performance for the price.
I had no problems dealing with Franky at all.
I noticed some backlight mods since the UT61E doesn't come with one - not sure which one to go with.
After a 10 year absence from EE, it's great to pursue this hobby again. Now I need the next EE tool: an oscilloscope...
-
I though I'd also mention that I just got mine in the mail, shipped in about 2 weeks to the Netherlands :).
First impressions are well beyond expectations, really, a steal for the price.
It truly feels like a high-end piece of equipment and from what I have been able to play around with it I can only say that I am very....very impressed.
And I can everyone recommend to get yourself one from Franky; communication was a breeze and packaging was great!
Also, make sure to include a nice set of his test leads/probes! The silicone really makes them super flexible, even the thicker modular leads are no problem when working with fine electronics!

I am also interested in a UT61E. Just to be curious: Do you accept Bitcoin payments?
And by the way: I am from Germany, and on ebay.de there is no item listed in your store. Do you really have nothing listed or is this an ebay error?
Regards KJaneway
-
Hi KJaneway,
I don't have a Bitcoin account (or do you call it a purse?) so I'm afraid I can't accept Bitcoin payment at the moment. Paypal would be the preferred payment method, and I do accept Euros as payment currency too.
The problem about my eBay store with German/Austrian/Swiss viewers is a known issue. For some reason eBay just doesn't want people from your part of the world to see most stores from the far east :( You should still be able to see my item pages (and make purchases) if you know the item numbers or have the direct links. Some of my German customers also reported that they could see my items by using the eBay mobile app on their smartphones (set to US site).
Here's the direct link to the UT61E in my store: http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNI-T-UT-61E-UT61E-22-000-count-Digital-Multimeter-/200901686717

Hi Franky
I am interested to get a multimeter for my home use, basically will measure resistance on my ecig stuff and my batteries efficiency,
Well after some search came with that multimeter but I have noticed differences which I cant understand, noticed that there is a UNI-T UT-61E and B and A and the price vary on each one, so do you have any idea what is the difference at least it can help me make up my decision
Also if you have another UNI modle that can be bit smaller though will do the job for me will appreciate your advice
kind Regards
-
Softarno, UT61E is one model and there are other models in the series called UT61A , UT61B, UT61C and UT61D.
On the outside they all look the same because they use the same case. You may think that they just changed some buttons to add or remove functions (for example UT61C has temperature measurement or UT61A has transistor measurement and backlight)
The insides of the models in this series (UT61) are different, some models have a different processor inside. For example, UT61A and UT61B are only 4000 count, UT61D is 6000 count, while UT61E is 22000 count, so there are at least 3 different chipsets/processors used in the series. UT61E with 22000 count is the best available.
UT61E is the only one that uses a particular processor which gives very good performance for the money.
-
Mariush, thank you so much for the information, but since am not an electrician so it sounds stupid question but what does 6000 count or 22000 count means? :o
well basically am going to use that thing for testing the resistance of the coils that am planning to build for my ecig tank which ranges between 1.5 ohms to 2.9 ohms as well as checking the efficiency of my batteries, so does the count matter in this?
-
Hi Softarno,
I am travelling at the moment so I will keep this reply brief. “Count” basically means resolution. A 6000-count meter can show a maximum of 4 digits up to 6.000 or 60.00 or 600.0 or 6000. Above that it will reduce to 3 digit like 7.00 or 70.0 etc. The 22000 counts offered by the UT61E is one of the reasons it's popular in this price range.
You can also have a look at the Digitek DT-4000ZC which should be good enough for your use at a lower price. Martin has a couple of videos on his channel, search 4000ZC for them. His meter is branded Tekpower, but it's the same meter.
I will return home on Tuesday and will be able to process orders then.
Cheers,
Franky
-
A higher count gives you a much larger resolution. The value the meter detects is converted into a number between 0 and that "count" value.
Let's say you measure a DC voltage, or a resistance on the multimeter.
A 22000 count multimeter can show up to 2.1999v, then it goes from 2.200 to 21.999v, then from 22.00 to 219.99v, then 220.0 to whatever. So especially with low voltages you have the benefit of having 4 digits after the dot, which allows you to spot small changes (for example when slowly loading a supercapacitors from a solar cell, or slowly discharging a battery and so on).
A 6000 count multimeter can only show 0.000 - 5.999 , 6.00 - 59.99v , 60.0 - 600.0v
So it's just a matter of making it easier for you to spot very small changes in the measured value.
It's not accuracy, accuracy could be better on a high quality 6000 count multimeter compared to a 22000 count multimeter but as the 22000 count multimeter gives you an extra digit, it may actually be better for you.
-
@ Franky
Thanks for the fast explanation and I guess I really don't need to spend allot in multimeter since am only going to use them for small resistance reading and also voltage not high, though I hope they will give me a correct or nearly correct reading.
Well I have checked on the DT-4000ZC but seems the only one I can find was on amazon and brand name was Tekpower and its price Us 35 and I could not find the Digitek on ebay but again find the Tekpower almost same like amazon but shipping was way high so it will be pointless.
Well also seen the the UNI-T UT61D with 6000 counts and it has backlight, price on amazon was Us 41.75 is it a good deal? I hope I can get it on ebay or I don't know franky do u have any, or the Tekpower?
@mariush
Thank you so much your explanation help allot I guess, and I also guess that the D version tho I was asking above if its good or not then I guess its not since you mentioned the processor, chipset and all which make E is a winner.
Well I am still confused about these multimeter that can be suitable for me, in fact I have a fluke here got it from a friend its Fluke 179 and its just awesome in accuracy, and was about to order the fluke 115 best price got for it was US 115 but do I really need to spend that much for my use.
Huh its really confusing but am not going to rush
Anyways thank you so much for your input

Dear Franky,
in fact am already on ebay and might just place the order right now

If you don't mind waiting a bit I should be able to get one from my Uni-T supplier. What is the best price you have seen? I will see if I can match it.

Hi Franky,
Sorry for the delayed reply. It looks like this forum does not send an email to you when there is a reply to one of your posts. Or, I don't have it configured properly.
Anyway, there is a 71E on ebay for $185.00 + $25.00 for 3 day delivery via UPS 3 Day Select.
At link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/360433102858#shpCntId
Also, I am trying to confirm if the 71E works with the UltraDMM software.
At link: http://www.ultradmm.com/Default.aspx
Let me know what you can supply the 71E, at what price and delivery.
Thanks, Bob

I can probably get you one for about $160 + shipping. Normal air mail shipping (with tracking) which normally takes about a week (I have seen anywhere between 4-14 days) would be about $15, express mail (Speedpost/EMS) would be about $28 which I believe normally takes 3-5 days depending on which part of the USA you are located. It will, however, take an additional 4-5 days for me to receive one from my supplier in China so you will need to consider that too if you're in a rush.

This offer is the best I've found - thanks.
According to the description in Franky's store, the UT-61E ships with a Chinese warranty card.
The English manual doesn't discuss warranty and the only addresses are in Guang Dong and Hong Kong.
What is the warranty?
Is the warranty valid in the US?
Has anyone in the US had a warranty issue? How was it handled?
Franky?

Strictly speaking, the warranty is only valid in China. However, if you don't mind the postage fees to and from the US to Hong Kong, I am happy to handle any warranty claim with Uni-T. So far I have not had to deal with anything like this yet. I can also get replacement parts (such as the LCD panel) for very reasonable price from Uni-T in case it's an issue that can be fixed on the user's end.

Thanks.
>> if you don't mind the postage fees to and from the US to Hong Kong
What would these be? (For a $55 meter, international shipping might be impractical...)
And how long is the warranty?
Of course I hope there are no problems, but it's best to know before committing to buy.

I don't know about from the US to HK, but from HK to the US, without the original box, battery and accessories (but with enough protection materials of course), it costs less than $10 to ship, maybe $7-8. The warranty period is 1 year.

I ordered one of these meters from Franky 4 days ago and it showed up today - talk about great service! It was very well packed and arrived in pristine condition.
Nice job, Mr. iloveelectronics! :)

Lately there have been more and more sellers on different platforms (eBay, Aliexpress, etc) selling these meters for ridiculously low prices and I think it's time for me clear my stock and call it quits (on this particular model), as it really doesn't make a lot of sense anymore with virtually no margins. I'm reducing my price on the Uni-T UT61E to $51 for US buyers and $53 for the rest of the world, shipping with tracking included.
My price still may not be the lowest but I'm hoping feedback from my previous customers in this thread, plus the fact that I test all meters I sell, will give my buyers more confidence and make up for the difference. I am also willing to do a simple adjustment on the DCV range against the voltage references I have and an in-cal Agilent 34461A 6.5 digit bench multimeter, to make sure every meter reads as accurately as possible.
Please PM me with your Paypal email address if interested. Thanks for looking!
Cheers,
Franky

Wow, so there are. Production must have ramped up! I'm very happy with the two the I bought from you and the big variety of test leads are great.

Actually I need this multimeter .What is the present price?

Although a bit late I just wanted to share my amazing experience with Franky (iloveelectronics). Shipped my unit BEFORE i made the full payment, tracking ID is provided, and unit arrived to Belgium in less than 5 days (3 or 4 if I remember correctly) + some other nice features if you ask for them ;) Never had an experience like this with a seller before, I can only say - RESPECT!!!
Still haven't had the time to test my unit though as I had some other stuff to fix in my car but now there are electrical problems and it will sure get handy. Will update you once I manage play around with it.
P.P. Unit tested, managed to measure my car battery's voltage and checked for parasitic drain without blowing the DMM :) I like it very much, looks very sturdy, probably one of the best Chinese products I've seen. Can't wait to put it in some tougher action.

Martin/Franky,
Are the latest UNI-T UT61Es coming with 600-1000v fuses to the USA yet? What's been updated if so? Is this the model IIRC that you include silicone TLs & a USB cable?
Price now =?
Thanks

I don't think Uni-T has any official distribution channel in the USA. What you get there basically directly comes from China. I think you are referring to the German/EU version with the upgraded fuses, which as far as I understand is only available in Europe. Chinese resellers do not seem to have access to these export-only products. I also don't think any Uni-T meters come with silicone test leads. The German version of the 61E does come with USB cable though (instead of RS232 in the Chinese version).

HI Franky, I don't suppose you've got any of these left, do you? I'm in Europe and can't seem to find one at that price point....

Thank you Hartmut. I ended up ordering the UT139c, which should do just fine.

Sorry I missed your post. Haven't been on this forum for a while. I actually did happen to have one last UT61E last week but was just sold before I saw this post. Hopefully your 139C will arrive soon.

Thanks Franky, no problem. I miss the messages on the forum as well since I don't receive notifications by mail....

Price: 78,- EUR ~ 81,60 CHF
I'm trying to find a German "GS" version for a lower price than around the usual € 80 from several European dealers, hopefully closer to the Chinese version price (around € 50) and came across this "European market Hot sale UNI-T UT61E" at AliExpress for US$ 60 (€ 53) including shipping (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/European-market-Hot-sale-UNI-T-UT61E-2-6-LCD-Digital-Multimeter-Red-Black-1-x/1964142532.html).
But if you look closer only the first photo shows the "GS rated" version while the others seem to be of the Chinese version (which comes with an RS-232 cable and not USB as with the German one). Also the specs seem to refer to the Chinese version (USB cable optional, higher voltage ratings), so I contacted them to ask about this but only received a poor English reply with something about them being a Uni-T agent selling authentic Uni-T meters, the info on their page is correct and I can be assured that I will receive the one in the first picture.
In other words, their reply wasn't very assuring, and I'm still not sure they'd be sending the same "GS" version I would receive if I purchased it through a European dealer ???
Has anyone else bought their "GS" UT61E from them and can confirm that this is actually the European version (at a much reduced price)?
UPDATE: and here's the same meter from the same seller for US$ 10 less (total US$ 50/€ 45 including shipping) (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/UNI-T-UT61E-2-6-LCD-Digital-Multimeter-Red-Black-1-x-9V-6F22-Battery/1964142506.html)! :o

Hello.
Just for fun... Look here: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/UNI-T-UT61E-2-6-LCD-Digital-Multimeter-Red-Black-1-x-9V-6F22-Battery/1358395_1964142506.html (http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/UNI-T-UT61E-2-6-LCD-Digital-Multimeter-Red-Black-1-x-9V-6F22-Battery/1358395_1964142506.html)
It´s explicit the european "GS"- version. 50.09 USD incl. shipping.
But it has only the RS232-cable.
BTW: I doubt, that this DMM is the "real" european version!
Why? Magnify the picture with the "GS"-sign and look yourself.
It claims Cat IV 600V and Cat III 1000V like the international version without "GS"-sign.
And that is simply wrong. It is rated: Cat III 300V, Cat II 600V.
(To verify look at this [german] manual: http://www.pollin.de/shop/downloads/D830346B.PDF (http://www.pollin.de/shop/downloads/D830346B.PDF))
And it is very easy to print any wanted sign on it...

Hartmut

Yes, you may be right. All too many fakes, lies, scams and cheating from those sources unfortunately.
I have contacted the seller hoping to get a more clear reply but haven't heard from them since.
It says on the site that you will get a full or part refund if the item isn't as described, but it's too much of a hassle and if I have to send it back at my own expense, the postage costs alone probably doesn't justify the savings.
So to conclude it seems I can either buy a cheap "Chinese" (non-GS) version from just about any eBay site or buy a genuine GS-rated version for a much higher cost from a European reseller such as Pollin (http://www.pollin.de/shop/dt/MzU2OTYxOTk-/Messtechnik/Messtechnik/Multimeter/RMS_Digital_Multimeter_UNI_T_UT61E.html) in Germany.
Apart from the better protection and more realistic voltage ratings in GS version, is the Chinese version of lower quality otherwise? I will use mine only for low voltage electronics and household voltage (AC 230V).
