Careful of OHL flashlights
« on: October 31, 2012, 02:22:38 PM »
I bought a flashlight recently, and am disappointed in the unit.

It has a 3AH lithium pack with the following faults:

No charge controller at all, it uses a set of current limiting resistors to charge the pack from either a 9VDC wall wart or a 12V car lead.

No undervolt cutout, it relies on the LED's not being current hogs below 3V.

No instructions for use or battery care.

As a torch though it is great, nice bright beam ( do not know how long the LED's will last though) and a lightweight unit, with both a beam and a flood provided by a package of 5mm LED's on the side.

The attached is the charging of the battery, I stopped at 3.95V both as I had been charging it for 8 hours and I did not want to go near to the 4.2V battery limit.
