Hi Martin

With all your testing of solar gear and batterys, it seems to me that what your missing in your lab is an dummy load

Maybe one like Dave is testing at the time, an BK 8500 load

I just got an used one and think it is cool, but i am missing the serial cable so i have not tested the smart software jet.

Hello Thomas,

You are so right, I did see Dave's teardown of the BK Precision 8500 and I look forward to the full review. I have been doing a fair amount of research on various electronic loads and have decided that the 8500 would be the best one for me. I have also checked ebay but will have to wait before I can justify spending that amount at the moment....but it will happen in time.

I'm sure you must be pleased with the one you have. I have already downloaded the software to take a closer look and seen the demo videos on how it works:

Battery capacity testing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wpGzpn8ycw

PV8500 DC Electronic Load Operating Software: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhCkxC0Tu-4

Thanks for the post.

Cheers,
Martin.
Play, discover, learn and enjoy! (and don't be scared to make mistakes along the way!)

Hi

yes i think it is a cool device and i have allready used it to test a number of thing including how good some batterys is that i have standing and i was then thinking of all your testing with batterys and solar power and i can only say get one i am sure you will love it.

i have not get the serial cable for it, so i have not jet trķed the software but i looks cool.

When your looking at them please note the limit in input volt as the 8500 i have is limit to 120V dc and i guess that you maybe need it to be high then that with solar panels in series and so on.

Hope you find one
