Is Arduino overkill for this application

Hi All;

Loved the MJ Lorton videos about getting started with the Arduino boards. I have been a programmer for 25 years, so that part will be a breeze for me. Thanks for these videos Mr. Lorton.

What I am wondering is, will the Arduino be overkill for my situation and if so, what would be a better solution?

I am trying to get 6 independent small DC motors (12v) to be run by a combination of switches and/or bluetooth connectivity from phone. These motors will be raising and lowering shades on the porch.

Any input appreciated and be sure to let me know if you need additional details. Thanks for reading.
