Title: Cheap scope probes?
Post by: steve30 on May 30, 2013, 08:39:54 AM
I have an old Hitachi V-222 20MHz oscilloscope. I use it with some dodgy coax cable which I made up with crocodile clips on the end.

I'd like some proper probes to use with it. I was wondering, am I likely to be OK with some cheap chinese ones, or did I ought to go for some better quality ones from a more well known brand?

I've never really used proper scope probes before, so I'm not too sure on what the quality is like.

Use the cheap Chinese probes, and look out for a used set of Tek probes to compare with. With the 20MHz scope the cheep probes will work fne, just get a few sets so that you can toss them when they break. I use the cheap probes from RS, they work well enough for basic work. If you get some get plain X10 ones as well as switchable ones.

Thanks.

I'll have a look around ebay and dealextreme etc and get some cheap ones.

I recommend this (http://dx.com/p/p6060-oscilloscope-probes-pair-120cm-length-101452)
I'm using it with DS1052e without any problems and build quality to price ratio is great.
