Title: Inside another Block Heater
Post by: Mr Eastwood on July 28, 2013, 06:45:44 PM
After watching Martin's video of his block heater tear-down,  I had been meaning to open the one I have up and take some pictures; so this evening after cleaning up my bench top I popped the lid and took some pictures.

I initially bought it to do some temperature tests on some small circuits and components but at the moment I've found a great use for it which is,  I line the block tray with kitchen foil, and then use it to heat modelling wax to a nice temperature which makes the clay easy to work with.

Nice unit. High stability resistors, triac control and they used real precision opamps, so likely the sensor is a silicon linear sensor like a LM335 or some such. No real precision reference though, so they are using the supply voltage generated by the TDA1023 and it's internal reference as a source.
