Title: Out Dated Book?
Post by: Prototype on September 02, 2014, 12:37:04 AM
Hello, I am new to electronics and I was looking for a book as a resource, I was looking at getting the book "Getting Started in Electronics" by Forrest M Mims III. I see all the reviews are great for the book however with technology evolving I was wondering if A book published in 2003 would still be a good resource in the 2014 world.

I am considering this book with the hope it covers the fundamentals which I think would remain the same, not sure though so I thought I would ask.

Hi,   the first publication of that book was back in 1983,  but that particular book and also his series of books in general are a great introduction to electronics;  and I would say they are still very relevant today for beginners who prefer a more informal approach to text-book study.

Fundamentals are Fundamentals. I have books that date back to the 70's and 80's and even some that date to the 40's. The principles stay the same. I have seen training videos which were originally made for the military on electronics fundamentals which date to the WW2 era and the principles are still very relevant. It's the processes, digital technologies and software that change rapidly unless your studying quantum mechanics then that's whole different story!

Thanks for the response, I think I'm going to purchase the book.
