T4D #111 - Mailbag, battery testing and a fair bit more......

Hi! Allow me to post my YouTube comment here too.
Awesome job again, Martin! I really envy you. :-) Please take this as a compliment.
The oscilloscope would make a nice giveaway... or any equipment for that matter which otherwise would only stay on the shelf.
And a suggestion: please mention in your battery testing spreadsheet an approximate price, plus which ones are rechargeable and which ones aren't. I believe that these are important factors. For instance, a battery might have a good watt hour per kg, but due to it's high price another one could be a better choice for an everyday consumer; or the Energizer Ultimate Lithium for example would not always be a good choice since it's not rechargeable (i.e. I have really good experience with Eneloops).
Thanks!

Yes, the Tadiran is a primary cell, and gets it's high capacity from having a very porous graphite anode, which has a high capacity, but as well a high internal impedance. Thus the low current rating, but it does have a long life and very low leakage. Thus it is intended for low current use.
I have a Crompton Eternacell here, that expired probably 5 years ago, but which still has some capacity remaining. Made in the UK by Hawker Siddeley, and probably will still have some life in it after another 5 years. I stopped using it as it's internal resistance was too high, and even with a 2200uf capacitor in parallel with it it would not supply a 10mA pulsed load.

The Tadiran cell sounds perfect for what I need for a low voltage data logger which I use for long term data acquisition. I have seen them on Amazon and other sellers sites but never tried one. Good info!

I've been looking forward to and keeping an eye on this one for quite a while.

Thanks for posting here as well good man...I can't reply to your Youtube posts...perhaps something related to Google +.
Very good points about the information in the spreadsheet. When time allows I will try incorporate that as well.
Hope you have a happy birthday on the 25th.
Cheers,
Martin.

Thanks! Will do so. :)

o.o ... seanb = mr martin?

No, he lives in Cleveland Ohio, I live in Durban South Africa. About equidistant across the globe.
Funny enough we are both roughly the same distance from you in Singapore though.......

Trust you to have those facts Mr B! ;)
