Teardown of two paired devices, these are old digital effects units that appear to come from a TV studio... they are of 1980s vintage and although i do think they are working they are not actually operational because i am missing the system software :--
Some pics etc on my blog:

That green CRT looks nice :).
It would be excellent to see it working.

thanks, yes i am hoping to get it working, i have a lead on getting the software for it, fingers crossed!
i also found someone with a copy of the user manuals, after reading it seems the P164 effects unit does by default display four test patterns and then passes through live video from input 1 to the main output as a live digitized stream which does work after hauling it into the living room and trying it... of course with the obligatory rolling eyes from SWMBO ;D
...so i cant see any reason why i cant get this up and running

When you get it running then we can expect new FX on the channel from it then? Should be good to see, though you will have to get an old VCR to get the blank video plus sync for it to run properly.

hmm, for nice retro video feel? Somehow i think Sony Vegas on my PC might just be able to outperform this lump of 80s tech!
if i do get the touch screen controller working though i will make a demo of it's capabilities, i have already recorded the turn-on test patterns on my DVR so can burn that to DVD and then rip that on the PC to load into Vegas so i should be able to do it in pretty decent quality.
I also have a Hi8 video camera i can use as a source. I just need to sort a second source to do transitions. I dont believe it can do blends without the optional BIM (mixer) boards so i think crossfades are out but it can do overlays like page-turns, tumbles, slides, PiP, warps, waves & keying in addition to normal manipulation like colour, brightness, pan, scan, zoom, perspective, skew, borders. There are lots of options for manipulating the video timings too including an encryption option which looks to be similar to VideoCrypt.
The touch screen controller looks really quite complex after reading the user guides so i am looking forward to seeing it... hopefully i can source a copy of the system disks.
The P164 can run from either an internal or external timebase so i dont need to feed it with a separate sync thankfully

Yeah, since you have it, and it is likely working, you should definitely make one of your YouTube videos with it. It would be cool seeing something made with all those circuit boards 8).
