T4D #84 - Pt 2 Bitcoin Mining, BFL ASIC vs FPGA vs GPU vs CPU
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:03:04 PM »
In this video I take a look at Bitcoin mining hardware. I compare the performance and power usage between BFL SC ASIC vs FPGA vs GPU (Nvideo GTX 560 Ti and AMD ATI Radeon HD 8950) vs CPU (Intel Core i7 3930K).

Video Here: http://youtu.be/ae97jo4wtis

I demonstrate these in the Bitminter mining client and measure the power with a Kill-A-Watt.

I then take a look inside (teardown / review) of the Butterfly Labs ASIC 5 GH/s Bitcoin Miner:
BitForce 5 GH/s SC
Model: BF0005G

BBC News posted this comment about an extensive article on Bitcoin operation:

How the Bitcoin protocol actually works
"Does exactly what the headline says. Walks you through the workings and history of Bitcoin from generic principles to a useful level of understanding without straying too far into algebra. The conclusion also explains why Bitcoin is the worst choice for anonymity, at least over time. When somebody works out who you are on the Bitcoin graph, which eventually they will, they have your whole transaction history for ever."
