Fluke 287 / 289 firmware bug fixed!
« on: May 07, 2013, 04:30:25 AM »
Hi Folks,

I'm just about to post T4D #63 (link here once uploaded) where I test the new Fluke 287 / 289 firmware (v1.16) that was given to me yesterday by Fluke.

It's not yet publicly available but they should post it soon: http://www.fluke.com/fluke/usen/support/software/DMMUpgrade.htm

From the Read Me:
Reason for release v1.16:
"Corrected an issue where recording sessions could be interrupted or terminated when using the record function in combination with ambient conditions of bright sunlight or other sources of bright light, when used without the iR cable attached."

I have attached the file that was given to me, it clearly worked for me but just note that you download and use at your own risk. If you have any concerns, wait for it to be made public on the Fluke website.

Cheers,
Martin.

Nice one, good to know that Fluke listen to the users.
I myself have bought a Fluke289 a year ago and it came with version 1.12 calibration date 06/04/2012.
It will be fun to know what they changed/fixed between V1.10 and V1.15 .
Thanks Martin.

ps. I made the same comment on the video i hope is not weird.

Good work Martin!
I'm not in a hurry, so I'll wait for the official patch.  I hope the unofficial one works for you.

Best wishes on your move to the mid-western US!  I'm in Kansas City.

MJ, I have done some tests with my 289 following the process in your video. I have v1.1 and could not get the fault to trigger with a LED torch, incandescent torch, incandescent light or florescent light. However I was able to lockup the my meter with the process 100% of the time in direct sunlight. I also tried a standard TV remote pressing the '1' key rapidly just as it was about to sleep at the 5 minute mark. The screen would flicker like it was going to go to sleep but then would quickly wake up and act normal and continue to log. Kid of like a wakeup call from a PC or something I guess. I'm going to test logging with sleep mode to a PC before I upgrade to 1.16v and then again after to see if the patch affects the logging to a PC in any way. I will also retest the sunlight issue after the upgrade.

Update: with the old version 1.1v the logging to the PC works fine and does not let the meter enter sleep mode or APO. When recorded to the meter memory with the data cable to the PC the meter will not enter sleep mode in 5 minute nor the 15 minute APO. In this setup the meter reading displays on the PC screen until the logging interval is complete at which time the PC screen meter blanks and the meter screen freezes indifferently waiting for the user to press save or close.

Update2: I upgraded my 289 to version 1.16v and it did fix the lockup problem when in direct sunlight. I then tested all the other PC logging and meter logging in the same way as I test 1.1v and found no changes to performance or processes. I will call this a good patch.
