Starting A Class, Wondering if the Tekpower DT9602R is worth the extra $10

Hello to everyone on the board!

This is my first post.  A bit of a story here, but my main question is, do you think the Tekpower DT9602R is worth the extra $10?  This is in relation to a class I am teaching.  It's very basic electronics, a pre 101 even.  It's identical to a Saturday course one might take at a Community College to prepare for the first 101 class.

That said, I am looking to put together a low cost\high value kit to get people started that will have some extended value once they are further along.  This little meter seems like a great deal!  However, I am wondering if the price is worth the extra cost of around $10.  The only real difference I see is the ability to test transistors, something my students may find helpful.

Does it come with everything the Tekpower 4000 comes with?  (The temp probe, software and RS32 interface cable?)

Obviously, cost is a consideration for people just starting out in electronics and even ten dollars can be a make or break.  But I still think it might be worth it.

Some suggestions for discussion.

For now, a starter electronic class, they could use those Harbor Freight meters that often go on sale for $2.99 with the caveat that you explain the safety concerns about them.  If all your electronics are going to be 9V battery powered, the Harbor Freight will work fine for their first meter.  Just don't expect the meter to last since it is built using the lowest quality components and poor build quality.

If some people are going to be "serious" about electronics, they will eventually get/need at least two multimeters so they can measure voltage and amperage at the same time.  Then, they can choose to spend whatever they think to get a more safe and full function meter.

As to whether the DT9602R is worth the extra $10, only you can decide.  For example, for another extra $20, you could probably get brand xyz with more functionality. For an extra $30 ... where does it end?
