I think shortly I may start a site of my own, actually just building electronic projects, I'll start with my next, generator ,well I'll record the building of it and see where I go, so far most of the sites feature expensive equipment , that the ordinary hobbyist just can't afford, I'm not really interest in  bench multimeter that are in the region  of £4000 UK pounds ,or calibration set ups, so if I do get the time to do this it will be ordinary gear that we all buy of e-bay, with ordinary projects servicing old radio's repairs etc. No multimeter shoot out's and forget the expensive bench equipment can't afford it, as I live in the real world  .

Building a site to document your hobby projects is good idea because it also helps others to learn, and you to learn from others feedback.

I live "in-the-real-world" but if you are resourceful you can pick-up good test gear to make a decent lab very cheaply - even here in the UK.

Oh yes I quite agree with you and I have some good equipment to, but not £4000 bench multimeter ha, I spent most of my time buying English equipment like Black*Star, which was made close to where I live. My power supply is by Farnell the D30 2, I bought it as a wreck then refurbished it to manufactures specification see picture, this is the type of things, take a look at G4PMK simple spectrum analyser this is what I'm on now, I'm know expert, with a degree, but I think the hobbyist is been just let down. some interested in electronics ,may see all the fancy gear on sites and be put off ,before they get started, and to me that's just wrong rant over.

I'll dig them out the specs, this next picture is of the 1Hz per/sec module I researched designed and built for my signal generator project, nice and stable, calibration of sorts was with a DDS frequency counter, my Blackstar Meteor only goes down to 5 Hz.

That would be a good Idea, start up your own site, maybe do some YouTube videos as well. And while your at it start up your own forum instead of coming on this one and underhandedly bagging the things that Martin does, uses and shows us on his videos. If you don't like his videos don't watch them.

That sounds like a very interesting idea! I will certainly follow it when you have it started, even though I am not a ham. I am sure I will still learn a thing or 2. And I agree you should give Youtube a shot too, especially because you're a native English speaker.

I also ponder making videos, and I may well do this, but the trouble with videos is they need lots of bandwidth and storage space. There's also an issue with quality. Although many people are getting better at making videos these days, there are still some where the video quality (resolution, compressions etc), sound quality, lighting, shakiness etc etc, just make them barely watchable. As I don't like watching videos like this, I certainly don't want to make them like this.

hi Steve, It's really just a thought at the moment, inspired by been annoyed, at not seeing enough building  video's, although I'm a proficient builder, it's good to see how others do it , you learn even more that way, some of my American radio Amateur friends, suggested I should do it to, but I don't know there's a lot to it, like you quality is an important thing, plus I wouldn't want to get into all that sponsor stuff, I've watched sites and I really feel there paid for by Agilent , Fluke , or Rigol. anyway that's my thoughts, thanks for replying.

todays construction was a power supply for my generator project, plus I took 5 minutes to calibrate  one of my Frequency counters, it read 10.0000056, it now reads 10.0000000/1 just flickering between the 0/1, not bad I last calibrated it 15 Years ago, I can live with that
