Fax modem teardown

Here is an old Fax modem, removed from service years ago, and now going to the Ewaste pile.

Supra 28.8k fax modem, made in Canada.

Front panel, the knob broke a while ago.

All Rockwell chips inside. PSU at the top, and unlike most this one is happy to run off 9VDC, as it uses a voltage inverter chip ( ICL7660) to make the RS232 voltages.

Interesting way to connect to the front panel, use a pin header and solder it to the board.

Nice LED displays.

Has some bad chips inside, has been getting worse for years, started with only one bad dot now is in both displays.

Display self test on power up shows the dead digits, along with my shoe.

What a blast from the past! I used to run my BBS off a Zoom 14400 modem...back in the day....
