EAGLE libraries
« on: May 23, 2014, 04:56:42 PM »
Hi all,

I've been messing around with Eagle today for the first time and I seem to be having difficulty understanding SMD package sizes. I understand the SMD sizes by themselves but I can never find the right one in the library. For example not all sizes are listed from what I can see. I would love a library of SMD resistor and capacitor footprints in separate metric and imperial libraries. I notice that when I click on an american list the parts are previewing in millimetres and the European are also sowing in millimetres. So it is confusing for me for example if I want to place a 1005 cap, am I placing a big imperial one or a tiny metric one? Can anyone recommend a good library with a full list of both metric and imperial footprints? It seems that would be a basic feature to have a simple SMD footprint list but maybe I'm missing something. I'm using an Adafruit library ontop of the stock library and still there is no basic SMD cap list. Any help or direction would be a huge help.
If it ain't broken, let's open it up and see how it works.

Hi Jason,

maybe I can help you. I do not understand the problems with the SMD resistors. All standard footprints are in the library rcl (0805, 0603, MiniMelfs etc.) Here R_US and R_EU are almost identical.

I think you're right that it looks different in RCL -> CPOL_EU & CPOL_US. It is missing some parts. My tip: Create your own library. This is not difficult and with a little practice goes fast.  You can also copy parts from an existing librarie to your own library and modify it.

Her i start to learn egal :)

In the parts-preview I see the parts of both metric and imperial.  See pic...

I hope I could help you.

Regards,

Zhang

Thanks Zhang,

I think creating my own library is the way to go. I was looking for an 0805 capacitor and resistor and I spent almost an hour looking for them including searching for libraries online. I eventually found them but it would be nice if it was slightly more user friendly.

hm, strange. Do you finde the librarie "rcl" in the eagle standard libs? Her is all you need. In rcl -> C-EU are all non-pol. caps. Also the 0805! In rcl -> R-EU are all the resistors.
rcl -> CPOL-EU pol. caps.

Libs in eagle:

rcl -> resistors, caps
pinhead -> pinheader  2,54 etc.
con-harting-ml -> connectors for ISP
con-wago-500 -> Screw Clamps
supply1 -> Powersupply symbols
diodes -> all diodes

I hope i can help you.
