TV Repair shops are not as they used to be!!!!!!!

With this week off I got chance to a pay a visit to a friends TV Repair shop,I then found out this shop does not go tor component level repair any longer, with exceptions,what they do now is change boards,and the old board/card,gets sent to China for refurbishment, a average repair !!!!!!!! is  around 25 minutes max, I was gobsmacked my friend told me that consumer goods just don't return enough profits, to allow them to spend time on the TV etc,if they get a ball ache TV,they give the customer  the chance to pay for fault finder extra service and  repair starting at £35:00p per hour +parts+tax.  That floored me,I'm in the wrong trade,and in case your wondering he's taken on 3 more engineers/board changers,to cope with business.

What do you expect, with the set being made so cheaply and in mass numbers, but the repair is still done the old fashioned blacksmith way, with a skilled person doing the repair. Doing a board change and sending the old ones to a central depot where you can get cheap skilled labour who do hundreds of repairs a week of the same fault types ( all mostly from poor choice in the design or manufacture to cut a cent here and there) is the only way to survive.

Funny enough i was talking over the weekend to a TV repairman ( they are still doing business here) and he has a large CRT TV in from a customer who wants it repaired, as the CRT TV set will not be stolen.

It just really surprised me how quickly things have change in the industry, anyway one good thing came from it he sold me one of his unused Tektronix's CRT Scopes,and I have my eye on another, you can't have to many analogue Oscilloscopes.

After getting my first cheap digi scope the other week - the thing is, I can't bring myself to part with my old trio crt scope now! is that how the illness starts?

Yes, I'm afraid your doomed, I have 4, two CRO, Telequipment & Tektronix,two Digital Tektronix & Siglent,she who must be obeyed at all times ,said that was enough,I do have another Tektronix  in mind

Yes I do, but she says Oh I've had these for ages , the hair is long thank god so don't have cost.
