Martin and I talked a few months back about the smartphone thermal imager I built in an interview (Interview #3) and board build, and I now have a Kickstarter on the reboot at

I move away from smartphones because of robustness (don't want to drop a phone and break one or both several hundred dollar device), connection problems and app development limitations (apps are hard to get computer vision working in - just try the Blippar or CraftAR apps - not great). The new device, HemaVision, is less than the Lepton dev kit at Sparkfun (
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13233). It includes a 3.2" touchscreen, shutterless 82x62 thermal diode array, battery, case, image sensor, quad-core processor and Wifi module.
