4. Measuring Inrush Current with an Oscilloscope, Circuit Breakers and Clamp Meters
In this video I use an oscilloscope to measure the inrush current caused by an induction motor starting with a variable speed drive (VFD). I do this to show some of the challenges clamp meters can face getting this measurement as an RMS reading when there is distortion of the waveform.
I also explain how an electrothermal circuit breaker works by preventing overloads and short circuits.
* Circuit breaker instantaneous tripping current, should it be RMS or peak current?Equipment used:
* Agilent / Keysight DSO-X 2000 Oscilloscope
* HT Instruments HT9022 Power Clamp Meter
* Yokogawa CW10 Power Clamp Meter
* Fluke 43B Power Quality Analyzer
* Thermal magnetic circuit breakerWatch the entire playlist here: http://www.mjlorton.com/ac-power-and-electrics/

5. How Does a Circuit Breaker / Trip Switch Work? - Part 1
In this video:
* We take a look inside a thermal magnetic circuit breaker to see how it works with both AC and DC.
* I do a practical demonstration on how the circuit breaker works to protect against overloads and short circuits.
* We take a look at some circuit breaker ratings such as:
In: Rated current – maximum current that the breaker is designed to carry continuously at an ambient air temperature of 30 °C.
Icu: Ultimate short-circuit breaking capacity.
Ics: service short-circuit breaking capacity.
* I test what parameters (voltage vs current) affect the overload protection of a circuit.
* I demonstrate the instantaneous breaking / tripping capability of a circuit breaker on an oscilloscope under various loads.
* I show circuit beakers that are designed to cater for electric motor start-up inrush current with an adjustable instantaneous trip setting.Watch the entire playlist here: http://www.mjlorton.com/ac-power-and-electrics/

7. Electrical safety considerations
My Outback Radian Inverter “failed”….
In this video I cover some electrical safety considerations if you are going to work on an electrical system / breaker box / DB board / Inverters / battery bank.
* Personal safety to prevent electrocution
* Safe electrical / insulated tools : http://www.tester.co.uk/tools-and-acc…
* Safe procedures / rules to follow when working on electrical systems.Watch the entire playlist here: http://www.mjlorton.com/ac-power-and-electrics/

Do consider that you might be breaking the law by working on your own electrical system.
As with most things in life, use your common sense.
Do wear safety glasses.
Read the other comments posted on this video.Just another note:
Every time you sing “Happy Birthday to You” in public, you’re breaking the law.

These videos will look into power quality in single phase power, power factor in linear and non linear loads, power factor correction, reactive power on the grid. I look into the devices that plug into your house to save 25 -30 percent on your household bill so see if they actually work. I also demonstrate some of the tools that can be used for power quality monitoring: Ocilloscope, Fluke 43B, Fluke 345, HT 9022.
In the later videos I explain how circuit breakers / trip switches work and discuss some important safety aspects for working on AC power
